NRA Personal Protection in the Home (PPITH) Course

DESCRIPTION: This course teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to form a personal protection strategy in the home. The course covers 1) safety; 2) mental preparation; 3) developing defensive shooting skills; 4) strategies for home and personal safety; 5) firearms; and 6) ammunition and accessories for personal protection.  

Learn and discuss the levels of awareness and how to develop a plan to either avoid confrontation or react in the face of it. Learn how to respond to various situations one might encounter in home protection. Learn and practice defensive shooting techniques one might use in a home situation. Learn about the use of firearms in self-defense and the law.

This is not a basic pistol class. The student should already be able to shoot a group, zero a firearm, and clear the firearm. The student should already be able to load, fire, and unload their firearm safely.

Students will need to bring:
1. Gun: revolver or semi-automatic of .38 special or .9mm or greater caliber, up to .45 (no magnum ammunition permitted, due to range limitations).
2. If using a revolver, bring at least two speed loaders, if using a semi-automatic, bring at least  
    two magazines.
3. 150 rounds of ammunition.  No reloaded ammunition is allowed.  Factory ammunition only.
4. Eye and ear protection.
5. A gun rug (or small case) for your gun to secure the gun when not in use.

WHO MAY ATTEND: This course is for adults, 21 years of age or older, who may legally possess a handgun in the state of Alaska and who are law-abiding adult citizens who have sufficient maturity and life experiences to be able to assess various situations and make mature decisions.

Prerequisite: To attend this class, students must have completed one of the following:

1. Alaska Concealed Handgun Permit Class (bring certificate of completion)
2. NRA Basic Pistol Class (bring card or certificate of completion)
3. NRA First Steps Pistol Class (bring card or certificate of completion)
4. NRA Pistol Competitive Shooting Qualification Card (bring card)
5. Military DD 214 with Pistol Qualification (bring proof)
6. Discuss your experience with the instructor.  The instructor may arrange a short pre-qualification session.

We hold classes for families, as well as women only, and co-ed. If you are a group of friends or are employees of a company that would like to enroll as a group, we can do that—call for information. Our live-fire safety rules provide that no pregnant or nursing mothers may take this course.

FEE: $165 * (Includes the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection in the Home textbook, a 199-page textbook.)

DATES & TIMES: May 19 & 20, 2018. Classes start at 9:00 A.M. and end at 5:00 P.M. each day; it is a two-day class. (Other class dates may be available in the future.) **

LOCATION: The Alaska Department of Fish & Game Hunter Education Indoor Shooting Range, 1501 College Road, Fairbanks, Alaska. (Just west of Danby Street, south of Creamer's Field/Refuge.)

AIM-COMM’s purpose is to foster the development of marksmanship, the safe and ethical use of firearms and to support and promote use of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game Hunter Education Indoor Shooting Range, in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Once you complete payment on the PayPal page, you should be returned to the AIMCOMM.ORG website.

Once your registration has been received you will be contacted by email for confirmation and to provide you more information about the event, so it is very important you provide a working email address that you can check on a regular basis. (We recommend you add the domain to your safe senders list so the email doesn't end up in your junk/spam folder!)
